Years ago, we decided to source land on the shores of Lake Elementaita because we’d always dreamed of owning property on the lakefront. Some of the reasons we chose to invest in Kikopey, Lake Elementaita were:

Demand for a lakefront property:

We invested because we understood that, over time, lake frontages, especially in Kenya, are at a considerable premium. We have few lakes and even fewer habitable land-fronting lakes in Kenya. So, by that simple fact, lake frontages are quite premium. That means, over time, demand for this space will only get higher, putting pressure on land prices.

The views from the property:

Lake Elementaita is gorgeous. It is famous for its mind-numbingly stunning sunsets. If you’ve never experienced one, please take a drive there. It’s an hour and 40-minute drive from Nairobi down the Nairobi-Nakuru highway. There are many decent places to stop by, including the famous Kikopey, where you can enjoy roasted meat and a sunset.

Commercial activities:

Many activities are happening at Lake Elementaita, including commercial activity and many resorts. Suppose you’re holding onto the lakefront property. You are uniquely placed to be of interest to a future hotel developer, which is why a resort or hotel would want to be on the lakefront. 

A UNESCO World Heritage Site:

Fast-forward to today, the Government of Kenya made a big push through the Kenya Wildlife Society, NEMA (the National Environmental Management Authority), WRMA (who manage the country’s water resources), the Kenya Forest Service and many others in conjunction with the UN, and UNESCO has adopted Lake Elementaita as a World Heritage Site. 

For a property owner, this is huge if you’re next to or within a heritage site globally recognised as unique and rare. Soysambu Conservancy, about a 70,000-acre property, sits across the other side of the lake. Aside from the views, these are all good things to have around your property in the long term. 

Ultimately, investing at Lake Elementaita is a big win! All these great features contribute to its long-term value and appeal, establishing it as a prime location for investment.
